Beyond the borders
The exhibition presents works from the Museum alongside photographs, drawings, interviews, writings, collages, videos, etc. by American and Bordeaux secondary school pupils, produced in workshops as part of a linguistic and cultural exchange programme entitled “Des ponts par-delà les frontières” (“Bridges beyond borders”).
This programme was developed as part of the FRAME (FRench American Museum Exchange) network.
Taking co-creation as its leitmotiv, this inclusive educational project also allows young people to become stakeholders in societal phenomena. The theme of the frontier/border enables them to look at questions relating to the links between cultures, immigration, inclusion and successfully living together.
The exhibition also acts as a reminder of the role of museums as neutral places that encourage visitors to think about their contemporaneity.
The organisations involved in this exhibition are the Bordeaux Musée des Beaux Arts, Cassignol Middle School, the Virginia Fine Arts Museum and the Richmond Collegiate School.
The exhibition of the school pupils’ creations and of works by André Lhote, Roger Bissière, Auguste Herbin and François Desnoyer is divided into five parts:
· From Bordeaux to America!
· The port, an initiation to travel, a frontier with freedom.
· Lines, colours, between the planes.
· Geometrical abstraction, an artistic frontier with freedom.
· No more limits to the language of art!
